The best recommendation is to read and follow the care instructions that come with the marker board or white board. 

Standard white marker boards can be easily cared for by:

Erasing the board with a proper eraser. Cleaning with a soft damp cloth. Allowing it to dry completely prior to writing on it again. Do not use standard household, industrial, and abrasive cleaning agents on your board.  This may scratch or cause a build-up of the agents on the board. Always use the proper dry erase board pen and accessories, never use permanent marker or other writing tools.
